Hit up the HoPo August 20 for Soy Candle Making for Harrisburg’s 3rd in the Burg!

Rt15 Destination The HodgePodgery (HoPo) is having a class to make your own custom scented soy candle Friday, August 20 from 5-8 p.m. in conjunction with Harrisburg’s Third in the Burg! Come out for a kid-friendly, fun event! If you have a small group, please call first at 717-236-0150. HoPo is located at 1100 North 3rd Street in downtown Harrisburg.

You will be able to choose your own scent and color, or mix and match to make your very own creation. There will be assorted delicious scents available for you to work with such as pumpkin soufflé, blueberry cobbler, hazelnut coffee, cinnamon and more. Walk away with your own creation for only $4 bucks.

Class instructor, Deb, is from the Lancaster area and enjoys working with different scents and trying new things. She has been involved in arts and crafts for many years. Although she has a full-time “regular” career, making candles and crafts gives her an outlet for her creativity. The name of her business, Pawprint Candles, is derived from her love of animals. Although she makes many products that are not pet-related, she loves to incorporate items which pet owners will enjoy, either for themselves or for their pet.

Beautiful and smells great too!

Handmade Along the Highway Artist Profile: Kathy Trexel Reed

Kathy Trexel Reed , a lifelong art enthusiast, enjoys producing original papercut designs using scissors and exacto knife, as well as cutting small silhouette portraits (with no pencil drawing) of people, sometimes pets, who sit for about 5 minutes. Creating colorful silk and watercolor paintings also offer her a welcome change of pace and help satisfy her artist’s appetite for design, pattern, and color.

She is a PA Council on the Arts rostered artist in education through Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art. Also, she has taught at Touchstone Center for Crafts, and at Laurel Arts, Somerset, PA, where she is an active Board Member. Her efforts as the Guild of American Papercutters’ recent president were instrumental in establishing a National Museum of Papercutting with Laurel Arts at the Philip Dressler Center for the Arts. It was named by the guild board, the Kathy Trexel Reed Gallery; she continues to serve as the museum coordinator.

Artist’s statement: I treasure time spent in my art studio where my imagination, experiences, and senses combine into new expressions, basically for my own fun. I love and need the creative process itself, not knowing where it will go, but finding something, an image, at the end of the journey that pleases me.
