Artisan partners across the state work year-round to create the beautiful objects and art that you can find at various times during the year – often in local shops or galleries. Now that the weather is getting nicer – get outside and experience art too! There are so many events taking place throughout the next few months and into the fall where you can find our partners such as arts festivals, community celebrations, fairs, and more!

Artisans spend a lot of time on the road and in their booths or stands presenting the artwork they have for sale. Although this sales routine is a reality for the artisan that wants to get wider exposure and sell more artwork, it can be grueling and long days are spent outside – often in hot, sticky weather.

Please support PA state artisans and enjoy the culture and heritage that make the state so memorable! Keep an eye on the PA Artisan Trails blog and Facebook – as well as your local paper and artisan websites for more information.

Find out more about expanded art offerings!

LEBANON – Programs of study and expanded art offerings at HACC’s Lebanon Campus will be highlighted during an “Explore the Arts” information session 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at HACC’s Lebanon Campus, 735 Cumberland St. in Lebanon. To help students who want to make art a career, HACC-Lebanon Campus is expanding its on-site offerings. Of the associate in arts degrees HACC offers, students can now complete the art and design degree at the Lebanon Campus and about 80 percent of the fine arts degree as well as the foundational course work for the graphic design degree.
“There is a lot of interest in the arts in Lebanon and HACC taps into what the community values,” said Cheryl Batdorf, executive dean at the Lebanon Campus. “We have a strong relationship with the Lebanon Valley Council of the Arts and we have the First Friday Art Walks so the whole community is starting to embrace the arts.” During recent renovations, an art studio has been created, which has special lighting and natural light and is stocked with easels, tables, plenty of storage, a brush cleaning area and more, Batdorf said.

More about HACC’s programs of study, simplified enrollment process, financial aid, scholarship options and student support services will be available during the information session. Art Faculty will be available to provide detailed information about the programs. Light refreshments and optional campus tour also will be available.

To register for this free event, go to www.hacc.edu/lebanon and click on “Events” or call 717-270-4222 for more information.

HACC’s Rose Lehrman Arts Center recognized for arts in the capital region

HARRISBURG –The Live at Rose Lehrman performing artist series and the Rose Lehrman Arts Center of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, will be recognized by Theatre Harrisburg with the 2012 Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts in the Capital Region.

The gala awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, April 29, beginning at 5 p.m.

The Arts Awards are presented annually at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg in recognition of one outstanding individual and one organization for distinguished service to the arts. Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra Maestro Stuart Malina is the individual recipient. “HACC’s Live at Rose Lehrman series just completed one of its highest seasons in attendance, with 93 percent capacity and eight sell-out performances out of a 10-event season,” said Teri Guerrisi, director of the Live at Rose Lehrman series. “After finishing this incredible 2011-12 season, we are elated to accept the 2012 Arts Award. And, it’s a very fitting tribute to the Lehrman family legacy that Lois Lehrman Grass will serve as honorary chair of the Arts Awards Host Committee.”

HACC’s Rose Lehrman Arts Center is also home to the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery, which exhibits collections, the works of local artists as well as artists of national and international renown. The gallery also hosts visiting artists for workshops and lectures that are free and open to the public. Currently the gallery features juried selections of student work in the Student Honors Exhibit through May 4. There are nearly 400 art majors in HACC’s art department with a large number of non-majors. Students are enrolled in courses in traditional media such as painting, drawing, photography and ceramics. More unusual course offerings are glass blowing, jewelry and typography.

Students have also achieved honors in HACC’s nationally ranked photography program. This week HACC graduate and member of The Patriot-News photography staff Sean Simmers was part of the news team that won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting for its coverage of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse case. He also was a recent nominee for a Pulitzer Prize in photography and has won other national honors.

For more information about the performances, exhibits and programs at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center, contact HACC at 717-780-2545 or go to www.hacc.edu.
Ticket information for the Theatre Harrisburg awards ceremony is available by contacting Theatre Harrisburg at 717-232-5501.
